Instant Insights

Real-time alerts, or smart alerts as they are sometimes referred to in industry, automatically send key real-time insights about your brand, competitors, or industry trends, either to your email inbox or to the Meltwater App. Such notifications allow executives to always be informed about important developments and stay one step ahead of critical events.

Smart Alerts: How it works

Every mention

Alerts are sent each time a new mention appears in the selected search. A maximum of 200 alerts is sent per hour.

Top reach

Real-time alerts are sent when a mention scores much higher than your search’s baseline, which is calculated from the last 3 days of data or the first 20k mentions. Mentions are scored on the source’s reach.

Spike detection

Alerts are sent when the search volume is much higher than your search’s usual baseline. Social searches compare the last hour against the previous 12 hours of data. Editorial searches compare 1 day against the previous 14 days of data. Our AI-driven tool checks for fluctuations before sending the alert.

X influencer

Alerts are sent when a post scores much higher than your search’s baseline, which is calculated from the last 3 days of data or the first 20k mentions. Post content is scored on the account’s engagement level and network size.

Events

Alerts are sent when we detect a high-impact business event (partnership, acquisition, headcount growth, etc.) for the companies you are following.

Real-time Alerts

Spike Detection

Spike detection notifies you when there's an unusual change in volume regarding a specific search. It can help identify whether a brand, a competitor, or a topic is trending on social or has received wide news coverage. Receiving this information in real-time can help brands participate in social conversations as they happen, react to issues as they occur, stay informed regarding important topics, or help their agency customer's overall PR or marketing strategies.

Here are some examples of Spike Detection:

  • Say the social mentions for a cosmetic brand average 200 hits during Saturday afternoons. This is its current baseline. One Saturday afternoon its number of social mentions jumps to 500 within an hour. A notification will be sent to notify the user of this abnormal change.
  • Compared to the last two weeks, the news mentions about car safety features increased by 300% after an announcement by a major automotive manufacturer, for example. An alert will notify the user of this change.

Top Reach

A Top Reach alert is sent when a high-reaching editorial source mentions keywords for your saved search.

When influential sources mention a company, competitors, or industry, it can directly or indirectly impact an organization. The Top Reach alert, therefore, allows customers to stay on top of influential editorial sources that mention their keywords. They used to notify executive leadership if their company receives high-reaching press coverage, they can then tag these mentions in their reports.

X Influencer

An X Influencer alert is sent when a high-reaching source on X mentions keywords for your saved search.

When an influential X handle mentions a company, competitors, or industry, it too can directly or indirectly impact an organization. After receiving this notification, marketing and PR teams can engage with influencers who are mentioning a brand and potentially create new partnerships, understand what could cause search terms to trend, and mitigate potential risks.

Pro tip: If an influencer mentions a brand, you can use Social Listening to track if this had a knock-on effect on your follower count.

Events Alert

An Events Alert is sent when Meltwater detects a high-impact business event (partnership, acquisition, headcount growth, etc.) for the companies you are following.

Event notifications reduce the noise by honing in on business-critical events so instant action can be taken across all organization departments. Having full visibility into your business ecosystem gives you the power to the informer versus the informed.
